Frequently asked

What is a Moon sign (rashi)?

Your Moon sign, or rashi, is the zodiac sign the Moon was in when you were born. Vedic astrology reads it against the fixed stars, and uses it for your daily transits and for kundali matching, because the Moon stands for the mind.

Can I find my Moon sign without my birth time?

Often, yes. The Moon spends about two and a half days in each sign, so on many dates it stays in one sign all day. If it changed sign on your birth date, the calculator shows both signs and roughly when it changed, and your birth time decides which is yours.

Why is my Moon sign different from my newspaper sign?

Newspaper horoscopes use your Sun sign, which comes from your birth date alone. Your rashi comes from the Moon, which moves through the zodiac much faster, so the two are usually different.

Why does it ask for my birth place?

Your birth place sets the time zone, so we can turn your local birth time into the exact moment to read the Moon for.
