How numbers are derived
Numerology turns letters and dates into single digits (and a few "master" numbers) by adding them up and reducing. Your birth date yields a life-path style number; the letters of your name yield expression and personality numbers. The same reduction rules apply throughout — repeatedly summing digits until one remains.
Chaldean vs Pythagorean
The Pythagorean system maps letters to numbers 1–9 in simple alphabetical order (A=1, B=2, … I=9, then J=1 again). The older Chaldean system assigns numbers 1–8 based on the vibration attributed to each letter, and never uses 9 for a letter. Chaldean is often considered more traditional and is calculated from the name as it is actually used; Pythagorean is simpler and more common in the West. Many readers cross-check both.
